Why should I get a dog walker?

Dogs are social animals. They need their pack and you are an important part of it. When you aren't there, they miss you. They need exercise. Just like humans they also need to have their minds stimulated to be kept active and healthy. Regular daytime activity gives them mental stimulation through territorial investigation. Most dogs love to interact with other dogs and other people, and to investigate their territory. They also love to patrol.

Walking a dog can also prevent many behavior problems. At least 2 walks a day help prevent elimination problems, destructiveness and common problems like separation anxiety.

Along with the emotional benefits there are of course important physical benefits. Many breeds need a lot of exercise - they are "designed for action". Aging pets also have special needs. They must get out more frequently to relieve themselves, to limber up and remain as fit as possible.

It is completely up to you on how many visits you think your dog requires per week.

Depending on your pets’ needs, they will be walked in nearby neighbourhoods, parks or ravines. Walk This Way will take them on a variety of routes giving them the opportunity for exploration and variation.

How long is a dog walk?

As with all of our services, we like to allow our clients to have as much choice and control as possible. We offer solo walks of half-an-hour and full hour. If you have another need, please let us know and we’ll be happy to accommodate you. Rates will vary according to needs.
Of course during extreme weather conditions, the walk will be shortened accordingly, in your pets best interest.

We offer an "in your home" pet sitting service. We believe that this is the best solution for many pets while you are away because studies have shown that most pets are less stressed when left in their normal environment. Here they have the scent of the owners to comfort them. They also know their way around and have no new "playmates" to create additional stress. They are secure in their own domain.

We will give your pets lots of TLC while in our care. We can visit them a number of times through the day, how often is up to you. We can include dog walks, and early a.m. & late evening potty breaks with these visitations as required by you. We can also stay overnight with them, if you want us to. Everything will be determined by you. We will ensure pets are fed according to your instructions and that they have fresh water on each visit. If you have pets other than dogs we will spend time with them playing with them or meeting any other needs they have according to your instructions. We will also clean litter boxes or cages and generally reassure the animal that it has not been abandoned.

We are also more than willing to look after other types of pets, such as birds, fish, hamsters etc., that need care while you are away, whether or not you have a dog.

Your puppy needs special care and attention. We'll give your pup a 30 minute lunchtime visit. They'll be fed and exercised (including lots of play). They'll also get a much needed bathroom break and we will clean up any accidents or messes so you don't have to.

 

 

 

We will be happy to give your house that "lived in" look while you are away. This includes bringing in the mail or garbage, watering the plants, changing the lighting configuration and turning on/off security systems. We work with you to devise a plan that meets your needs. Many insurance companies actually require that you have a keyholder to visit your home every 48 hours for security purposes. We can certainly do this for you.
